Dematec Automation and HydroPlan awarded 2017 Allwater Alliancing High Commendation for the Gawler Water Reuse Scheme

August 23, 2017

Dematec Automation and HydroPlan Pty Ltd formed a successful alliance to deliver the $21.4m Gawler Water Reuse Scheme (GWRS) project in 2015-16.

Incorporating the design and construction of a harvesting mechanism from the Gawler River and 43km of pipelines, it brought new water to the western Barossa, reducing reliance on the River Murray and flood risk in the Gawler region.

Savings achieved through alliancing were re-invested in  water security improvements and strategic provisions for up to 4,000ML/pa by connection to the Virginia Pipeline Scheme (VPS), MAR storage and increased stormwater harvesting capacity.

Environmental benefits include energy efficiency, substituting more than 800ML/pa of Gawler River water for Murray River water, productive use of recycled water from Bolivar WWTP via CPS and reuse of stormwater runoff from the Gawler River.

Dematec Automation supplied its scaleable Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform which delivered:

  • Secure 3G communications platform for the remote operation and control of the network (via tablet or phone)
  • Cloud based operator interface with automated process trending and reporting
  • Data connections to third party software packages for presentation of water usage information directly to customers
  • Camera access at critical pump stations to enable remote visual inspection.

HydroPlan operated the extensive GWRS system of five pump stations, a river monitoring station, two dams, five monitoring and valve control stations, and a water treatment plant, remotely from Adelaide.
